Thousands of people are expected to flock to Melbourne in a few weeks as two huge events take over Brevard County.

It will be a boom for the area, but it will also be a challenge for police as they try to deal with the traffic Friday, March 20, through Sunday, March 22, as the Melbourne Air and Space Show and Runaway Country musical festival take place.

"Ordered more beer, and we will order more flour and pepperoni," said Tim Christie, who owns the Bizarro's Pizza location right across the street from Wickham Park, where the fifth annual Runaway Country festival will take place.

Christie said business has doubled in the past on concert weekends.

The three-day event is bringing in some of the industry's biggest and upcoming stars. About 20,000 fans will be streaming into the park each day.

"We work on a traffic plan to get people in, put them in a circular motion with no left turns," said Gary McCann, with Runaway Country.

The weekend is different than years past, though.

The Melbourne Air and Space Show, which will be at the Melbourne International Airport, will take place on the same weekend just a few miles away.

Spectators will likely be between 10,000 to 20,000 each day as many come to see the Blue Angels, the show's main draw.

"We are going to have that huge draw," said Brian Lilley, of the Melbourne Air and Space Show. "It's probably going to be the biggest weekend that Melbourne has seen in recent history."

The timing of the large events happening on the same weekend is due to scheduling conflicts, but Christie said he's welcoming people who will be ready to spend some money.

"We want to be welcoming to those wanting to catch a little break and some quiet," he said.

Melbourne police are encouraging people who are headed to both events to take specific routes to avoid crossing into each event's area.

Police are advising people who are coming into town for Runaway Country to use Wickham Road and the Pineda Causeway, heading south. They also suggest going to the air show via State Road 192 and Eau Gallie Boulevard heading north rather than crossing through town.
