Like neighboring counties, Volusia County is in need of lifeguard candidates.

Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue is searching for nearly 40 additional candidates to start training to become lifeguards over the summer.

While officials are expecting a number of veterans to return, there is always a need for fresh faces to man about 80 towers that are expected to be open across the county's coastline this summer.

The final opportunity to try out will be from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at Daytona State College.
