The dog that attacked two children playing in a yard March 27 remains on the loose.

Lake County Animal Control officers responded to the area along near 25847 Westmoreland St., in Sorrento, in reference to a dog bite.

The officers were advised that two boys were playing in the yard in front of the home when a brown- or brindle-colored pit bull came out of a wooded area and attacked both children.

One of the victims suffered a serious leg injury, when the dog tore into his calf. He was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando.

Extra patrols were in the area over the weekend.

Animal Control has also placed traps in the area, in hopes of catching the animal.

If the dog in question is tracked back to its owner, that person could face criminal and civil charges.
