A taxi driver is facing several charges, including attempted murder, after police said he held a pregnant woman hostage inside his van Friday in Kissimmee.

Around 11 a.m., Kissimmee police responded to the area of Central Avenue near Neptune Road in reference to a domestic incident occurring in a vehicle that was stopped in the middle of the road.

A witness called 911 to report a man holding a woman against her will in the van and believed he saw a gun.

Officers attempted to communicate with the driver, but he didn't respond to their commands, police said.

"They could hear her screaming for a while, but then all of a sudden it became very quiet," Kissimmee Police Chief Lee Massie said. "At that point, they had to reassess and decide what the next step would be for them."

The man was removed from the vehicle after a brief standoff. He has been identified as 34-year-old Marc Henry, of Orlando.

He was taken to an area hospital to be treated for a laceration to his abdomen, according to a report.

The victim, who is pregnant, was airlifted to a nearby hospital for evaluation. During the incident, a day care in the area was evacuated, and several businesses were locked down.

The vehicle is at the Kissimmee Police Department and will be processed once a search warrant is obtained.

Henry is charged with attempted murder, domestic aggravated battery, domestic strangulation, kidnapping and false imprisonment.
