Visitors at Universal Studios Florida noted an unusual sight Wednesday -- metal detectors outside the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster.

Universal spokesman Tom Schroeder said it's all part of a new program they're testing on certain rides.

Universal said it's always prevented loose items from being brought onto roller coasters, but this just ensures that those safety levels are maintained.

Since this is just a test, metal detectors may show up at random times or at other rides.

Schroeder said so far guests seem to understand why the metal detectors are being used.

The devices may become more permanent at the rides someday.
