A man who went missing in Orlando last week was found safe in Oviedo late Thursday night.

Efrain Melendez Pacheco, 73, was reported missing by his family on Friday, March 13.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said on Thursday night a retired Orange County deputy saw an elderly man walking on the side of East Broadway Street in the Geneva–Oviedo area.

A Seminole County Sheriff's Office deputy responded to the area and located the man, later identified as who was later identified as Melendez Pacheco.

Investigators have not said how Melendez Pacheco got to Oviedo from Orlando.

Investigators said he had a minor injury to his hand but was in good condition.  He was treated at the scene by Seminole County Fire Rescue and refused to go to the hospital.

An Orange County deputy responded to the scene and drove him home where he was reunited with his family.

Last Friday investigators said Melendez Pacheco left his home on the 6000 block of Lee Lan Drive around 10:15 a.m.  and was approached by the sheriff's office in the area of International Drive and State Road 528 around 11:30 a.m. Saturday. At the time, the deputies did not know he was missing although he had already been reported missing.

Investigators said when deputies made contact with the 73-year-old, he was with his dog and deputies noticed the dog was in bad health. The deputies then took the dog to Orange County Animal Services and let Melendez Pacheco, who they said appeared to be in good health, leave.

Deputies searched nearby woods after a canine tracked his scent to the area.

Melendez Pacheco is from Puerto Rico and lives part time in Orlando. He was in town for his brother's funeral.
