Voters in Orange County headed to the polls Tuesday for municipal elections. Elections were held in Maitland, Winter Park, Belle Isle, Ocoee, Windermere and Winter Garden.

WINTER PARK: MAYOR

City Commissioner Steve Leary beat out former Judge Cynthia Mackinnon for Winter Park mayor, 53 percent to 47 percent. A large part of the race lied in the candidates’ views on future development and handling traffic concerns. During recent debates, Mackinnon has tried to paint Leary as a supporter of big development. But, he’s refuted that claim, saying he’s worked as a commissioner to help keep projects smaller.

WINTER PARK: CITY COMMISSION, SEAT 1

Winter Park resident Greg Seidel won election to Winter Park Commission, seat 1, beating out small business owner Gary Brewer.

"It’s just overwhelming joy.  I’m really just thrilled," Leary said. "The citizens of Winter Park came out and they spoke. We have to work together, we have some issues that were brought up in this campaign so I am looking forward to moving forward – just putting my head down and working."

Leary will take office as mayor March 23.

MAITLAND: MAYOR

Maitland voters chose Dale McDonald over Doug Kinson for mayor of Maitland. Kinson is a former mayor. McDonald is a former planning and zoning board chairman. Among his main goals: protecting property values and reducing traffic congestion.

WINTER GARDEN: COMMISSIONER, DISTRICT 4

Colin Sharman won re-election for Winter Garden Commission District 4. Sharman beat out challenger David Kassander, 70 percent to 30 percent.

WINDERMERE: CITY COUNCIL

One incumbent candidate for Windermere City Council was ousted Tuesday night. Three seats were up for a vote. Jim O'Brien and Molly Rose won re-election, while challenger Robert McKinley beat out incumbent Mike Pirozzolo.

BELLE ISLE: CITY COUNCIL, DISTRICT 5

In Belle Isle, voters in District 5 re-elected Harvey Readey, the incumbent representative, for city commissioner over challenger Larry Miles.

OCOEE: COMMISSIONER, DISTRICT 2

In District 2, incumbent Rosemary Wilsen beat out Mike Hopper to be re-elected for district 2 commissioner.
