Brevard County investigators have a mystery on their hands after skeletal remains are found in a riverfront park.

The remains were found along the bank at the Intracoastal Waterway Park, 600 W. Merritt Island Causeway. The park is under the State Road 520 bridge that links Cocoa, Merritt Island and the beaches.

Investigators are not sure if the remains are human or possibly an animal, but said they have been in the water possibly for months.

There are no visible signs of injuries.

Investigators will be using a DNA test to hopefully come back with a positive identification.

No other details have been released.
