A Maryland man was arrested Friday after deputies said he robbed an Osceola County hotel at gunpoint and then got into an altercation with deputies when he was located in the woods.

Osceola County Sheriff's Office deputies were called around 4:40 a.m., to the Red Roof Inn located at 4970 Kyngs Heath Road, in Kissimmee.

When deputies arrived, they spoke with an employee who indicated an unknown man wearing a mask entered the hotel and asked for a room. The man, later identified as 23-year-old Yves Ngounou, then took out a handgun and demanded cash.

Ngounou left the area with an undisclosed amount of money, deputies said.

Deputies, with the assistance of the K-9 unit and aviation unit, searched the area via ground and air. They located a man in the nearby woods matching Ngounou's description.

Ngounou got involved in a physical altercation with a deputy, but a K-9 unit was able to help deputies take the man into custody.

The deputy was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for his injuries, which weren't life-threatening.

Deputies also found a bag with Ngounou's handgun, mask and gloves.

Based on the evidence, Ngounou was arrested and charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, petty theft and resisting without violence.

He was booked into the Osceola County Jail.
