Five people, including an 8-month-old child and two deputies, were taken to the hospital after a meth lab exploded Wednesday morning near Daytona Beach, deputies said.

Volusia County Sheriff's Office investigators are at the scene at 1216 10th St., near Daytona Beach. The explosion happened around 11:30 a.m.

George Wiggins and Laura Wiggins were arrested for meth manufacturing and child neglect.

The Wigginses and an 8-month-old child, were inside the home at the time of the explosion.

An adult female and the child were taken to the hospital for precautionary evaluations. A male inside the house required medical treatment.

Additionally, two Sheriff's Office deputies were exposed to a heavy cloud of chemical fumes when they entered the house out of concern for the child, said Andrew Gant, public information officer for the Sheriff's Office.

All five were being evaluated and/or receiving treatment Wednesday afternoon at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach.

Narcotics units are on scene investigating the explosion. Criminal charges are pending, Gant said.
