The popular new Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts ride at Universal Orlando has been closed for several days, according to theme park guests wondering what was going on with the attraction.

Universal Orlando spokesman Tom Schroder confirmed Friday that the ride at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Diagon Alley was closed for off-season maintenance, and would reopen over the weekend.

Schroder did not go into detail about the maintenance.

Since its opening in July, riders ohave reported multiple malfunctions and breakdowns on the indoor coaster ride.

In one notable incident in December, Orlando firefighters rescued about 12 people from Gringotts after Universal said a technical glitch caused the ride to come to a safe stop.

After that incident, Schroder said Gringotts "has been operating wonderfully and thousands of our guests have had a great experience."

In a September interview with Banks Lee, host of Orlando Attractions Magazine's "Attractions: The Show" on Bright House Networks Local on DemandChannel 999, he described breakdowns as happening "almost daily" at the time, but added such problems were not uncommon with new attractions.

"With all new attractions all over the world, things are bound to happen as it's getting used to guests riding it constantly. It's not an issue at all," Lee said in the September interview. "With a ride like Gringotts, it's one of the most advanced rides in the history of the world."
