Fallen deputy Scott Pine is being honored with a street named after him in a Gotha neighborhood.

The unveiling was organized by the Falcon Pointe Homeowners Association.

The president of the association said he wanted to commemorate Deputy Pine because he patrolled that area and many neighbors knew him personally.

Deputy Pine died after being shot while responding to a car burglary a year ago this week.

Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said the anniversary falls on a particularly difficult week for his deputies. This past Sunday someone shot at two of his deputies.

"In the 34 years that I have been in law enforcement, I can not remember a time when we had so much occur," Demings said. "Deputy sheriff being shot at by a citizen, surviving that, narrowly surviving that. But then the commemoration of the life and legacy of a deputy sheriff who was killed in the line of duty. And all the other things that have happened this week. It’s been quite the week here in Orange County."

Deputy Pine’s widow and three children were also at this dedication. Just Thursday night, when a memorial for Deputy Pine was unveiled in Windermere.
