A man who was shot outside a nightclub in Orlando early Sunday has been identified.

It happened around 2:40 a.m. at Club Lux, 5688 International Drive.

Off-duty officers working at the club were clearing out the parking lot when one officer called for assistance with an active shooter. Police said the officer observed a man, later identified as 21-year-old Jalen Atkins, firing a gun in the parking lot.

Investigators said the officer confronted Atkins and fired his weapon. Police have not said how many times Atkins male suspect was hit.

Atkins was taken to the hospital in an unknown condition.

The officer, whose name has not been released, was not injured.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting which is standard procedure in any officer-involved shooting.

The officers involved are now on paid administrative leave.
