A manhunt is underway for a man wanted in connection with the death of a 25-year-old mother, Orange County deputies said.

David Payne, 62, is wanted for first-degree murder and armed kidnapping in the death of Jasmine Samuel.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, Samuel called 911 around 12:34 a.m. and told the dispatcher she was forced into the trunk of her own vehicle after being abducted while on her break at work.

Deputies said she provided a general area of where she was abducted, and deputies began an extensive search.

The vehicle was located around 2:06 a.m. at the end of a dirt road near 6th Street and 11th Avenue in the south Orlando area. Samuel was found dead in the trunk of the vehicle, according to Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings.

Demings said a firearm was used in the woman's murder, but no other details were released.

Samuel and Payne were previously involved in a romantic relationship, detectives said.

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family of Jasmine Samuel," Demings said. "And with the help of the people here in Orange County, we should be able to bring some sense of justice to the family."

Payne has a violent criminal past. According to jail records, he was sentenced in 1973 for killing a non-family member in 1972. In 1992, Payne was sentenced for kidnapping, assault or terrorize the victim or another person in 1991.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crimeline at 800-423-8477.

The public is urged not to approach Payne, who deputies said is likely armed and dangerous.
