Homeowners living in the Pelican Bay gated community in Daytona Beach are keeping a watchful eye after some people broke into 10 homes, stealing valuables.

Lisa Johnson lives in that gated community.

"My understanding is they're happening right in broad daylight, that it's someone coming in, they're just cutting the windows out of homes, going for jewelry, cash," said Johnson.

The Daytona Beach Police Department has pictures of two women, who they believe are between 40 and 50 years old, breaking into homes and making off with Rolex watches, pearl necklaces, gold jewelry and other expensive items.

Police say both women got out of an SUV driven by a man.

Meanwhile, Johnson and other homeowners are upset they learned about the burglaries from neighbors and not the Pelican Bay homeowner’s association.

"I think there should be fliers sent out to the homeowners. I know there may be some posted where we check our mail. Not everyone looks at that type of thing. I think we could maybe be better informed," said Johnson.

Another concern Johnson says she and her neighbors have is how those thieves have been getting into the gated community when security is supposed to be tight.

"You do have to wonder why we're a gated community, how this type of a thing can happen in a gated community, so those are some concerns," she said.

No one at the Pelican Bay Homeowner’s Association has any answers and even declined to comment regarding the fliers Johnson says are needed or security at Pelican Bay.

However, Police and the HOA are teaming up to offer a $2,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
