A Seminole County woman has been arrested after the Florida Highway Patrol said she was driving under the influence and was involved in a hit-and-run crash with her child in the back seat of a vehicle.

Carlene Musselwhite, 22, of Longwood faces several charges, including hit and run, damaging property, resisting an officer and battery.

The incident happened Thursday night in Sanford near the intersection of State Road 46 and Brisson Avenue. Troopers received reports of a driver who had sideswiped another car and then left the scene.

Musselwhite was found later at the intersection of S.R. 46 and South Mellonvile Avenue — at the scene of a second crash.

According to an FHP report, Musselwhite’s car had extensive damage on the front and left side. Troopers say Musselwhite’s 5-month-old son was in a rear-facing child seat in the back seat of the car.

Musselwhite was given a field sobriety test and placed under arrest. That’s when troopers say she began struggling with officers.

She was taken to the Seminole County Jail.
