A massive search for a young autistic man in Orange County has been suspended.

Kency Synsmir was last seen around 4:45 p.m. Saturday leaving his home on Robbins Avenue in the Pine Hills area of Orlando.

Authorities said they recovered a body in a pond behind the family's home on Sunday night, and although they can't confirm the body is Kency's, they are suspending the search.

Authorities say Synsmir is autistic and mute, and they're concerned about his well-being. They set up a command post at Meadowbrook Middle School in Orlando.

About 60 law enforcement officers were looking for Synsmir, including divers, police dogs, and even a helicopter.

“Kency and his sister, who is 12, were playing in the backyard which is what they usually do. So the sister came in, the mom continued to clean and all of the sudden they realize that Kency was gone,” said Jane Watrel, spokesperson for the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Kency's family says he has the mental capacity of a toddler and only communicates by making noises.

“He’s not a dangerous child, he’s very innocent ... a sweet child,” said Catina Phillips, a family friend.

While deputies don’t know what may have caused him to walk out of his home, they say Kency loves the show Barney and is fascinated with yellow school buses.

“He don’t get out much," Phillips said. "They never let him out alone. Mom, sister and family is always with him. So, that is my biggest concern as far as them locating him.”

Friends and neighbors say they’re only hoping for the best outcome.

“I pray, I pray for the family … And like I said my heart goes out to him,” Phillips added.

Anyone with information on Kency is asked to call the Orange County Sheriff's Office, that phone number is: 407-836-HELP (4357).
