Some Brevard County teachers shopped with their heart Wednesday to help out homeless students in their community.

Dozens of teachers headed to the Supply Zone for Teachers in Cocoa, gathering coats, warm clothing, hygiene products and school supplies for the more than 2,000 homeless students in the Brevard County school system.

"These are the sort this of things that our kids are lacking, because either they're living at hotels or in the car, or actually piled up with a number of family members," said Shedena Wells, a teacher at University Park Elementary School in Melbourne.

Teachers were also given the chance to speak with local organizations who help these children year-round.

Wednesday's event coincides with National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.
