Michael Jackson's "Captain EO" will fly his final mission next month.

Walt Disney World announced Friday that the on-again, off-again 3-D attraction at Epcot will close at the Magic Eye Theater in the Imagination Pavilion on Dec. 6.

In its place, Disney will add a new 4-D experience featuring Pixar animated shorts.

Innovative for its time, Captain EO is a 3-D film that opened at Epcot in 1986, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, produced by George Lucas and starring Michael Jackson and Anjelica Huston. In it, Jackson stars as the captain of a ragtag band of creatures who are on a mission to bring a gift to the Supreme Leader, the alien queen of a rotting world.

EO closed in 1994 to make way for Honey, I Shrunk the Audience. It returned in 2010 after fans campaigned following the death of Michael Jackson.

EO also plays at Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland.

The "Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival" will feature three Pixar animated shorts in 4-D, but that's all Disney is telling us right now. No word on when the Pixar festival will open.
