Another city in Brevard County is addressing poor road conditions.

Leaders in Satellite Beach will soon move forward with plans to rebuild and resurface city roads. Satellite Beach is just one of many cities along the Space Coast dealing with poor infrastructure because of a lack of funds.

The city of Satellite Beach had to hike the utility tax on residents to pay for the road fixes. Roosevelt Avenue is at the point where it needs to be completely rebuilt.

The City Council on Wednesday night agreed to spend about $1.07 million to reconstruct Roosevelt Avenue, which is the major connector between State Road A1A and South Patrick Drive.

Council members also agreed to spend another $878,000 to resurface roads that haven't been repaved since they were originally built in the 1970s.

The costs of both projects came in over bid, so a stormwater and sports field project will be placed on hold for now.

The City Council also asked the Brevard County Commission to look at ways to better fund road construction throughout the county. City leaders suggest the county increases the gas tax, collect more impact fees or supports an infrastructure sales tax.
