The weather Saturday was perfect for just about everything outside except for a visit to the beach, thanks to Hurricane Joaquin.

Joaquin is several hundred miles off the coast and causing dangerous swimming conditions with strong surf.

Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue said lifeguards pulled 15 people from the water Saturday because of rip currents, but no one was injured.

The surf is triggering higher than normal high tide, making it almost impossible to drive on Daytona Beach. Volusia County closed the beach to driving Saturday. Officials are hoping to open the beach for a bit Sunday as the tide allows.

“We came out hoping to drive on the beach and see the sights and we’re disappointed," said Erin Hosking from Kentucky.

Surfers, however, can't keep away from the promise of 7- to 8-foot waves.

“Well, I’m coming to check out the surf, I surf now and then, coming to check out how big the waves are from the hurricane," said surfer Brad Yates.

Lifeguards say surf conditions like these will likely last several days.
