Hurricane Joaquin may thankfully be staying off Florida’s east coast, but it’s impacting Central Florida’s beaches.

From pounding surf and high rip currents to coastal erosion and flooding, there are some big concerns this weekend along the coast.

As Hurricane Joaquin makes its way north, it's going to be tempting for surfers in Brevard County.

“The biggest illusion with surfing is that when you’re on the beach you might think it looks small, and when you get out there it’s 3 times bigger than what you really think,” said surfer Adam Schultz.

There is a high rip current risk associated with Joaquin as well.

Lifeguards are recommending swimmers stay out of the waters.

High tide Saturday was just before 1 p.m.

Brevard County Natural Resources says they're keeping a close eye on some problem spots, including the beaches south of Melbourne Beach.

Three cruise ships were delayed in returning to Port Canaveral Saturday morning because of the rough seas.

Some itineraries have been altered to avoid Joaquin, but no cruises have been cancelled.
