Police have released the names of the father and son killed last week in a crash in Altamonte Springs.

Meanwhile, the wife and mother of the victims has a traumatic brain injury.

Jose L. Vargas Rosario, 35, and his 1-year-old son, Brayden O. Vargas, were killed Friday after police said a car crashed into several vehicles stopped at a red light near the intersection of State Roads 434 and 436.

Brayden's mother, 27-year-old Ivelisse S. Martinez, was critically injured. Officials say she has no memory of the crash, the birth of her child -- and is uncertain if she was ever married.

Police said Cynthia D. Guthrie, 74, never hit the brakes and was traveling at a high rate of speed. The posted speed limit in the area is 45 mph.

“We would do a very thorough investigation, no matter on age of any driver and that is what we’re doing right now,” said Rob Pelton with Altamonte Springs Police.

A total of seven vehicles, including a tractor-trailer, were involved in the crash. None of the other vehicles were moving at the time of the accident. Guthrie has not yet been charged with a crime.

“We do not suspect any type of driving under the influence, we do not suspect a distracted driver such as texting while driving, or on the cell phone," Pelton said. "She doesn’t know why she didn’t stop.”

Traffic homicide investigators have a total of 60 days to complete their report and decide whether to file charges against the driver at fault. It is a lengthy process that will involve examining phone records, toxicology reports and Guthrie’s driving history.
