A Flagler County man accidentally shot and killed himself after he tripped while he was hunting Thursday night in Flagler Beach, deputies said.

Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies responded just after 6 p.m. to Sugar Mill Lane South, in Flagler Beach, in reference to shots fired.

Emergency personnel were attending to 45-year-old Andrew Brendel when deputies arrived to the scene.

According to witnesses and emergency personnel, Brendel stated he tripped while walking through the woods and accidentally shot himself with a .22-caliber rifle.
