Two people were taken to a hospital in DeLand after a large tree fell on their car while they were driving down the road Tuesday.

According to witnesses, a man and a woman were in the car traveling north on Kepler Road near Poinsettia Drive, south of International Speedway Boulevard, when a large part of the tree collapsed on their silver car.

Firefighters were forced to use Jaws of Life to pull the woman driver out of the car. That woman was airlifted to Florida Hospital in DeLand. The passenger was taken by ambulance to the same hospital.

Two other cars were struck by falling debris, but the drivers of those cars were not hurt, according to Florida Highway Patrol troopers at the scene.

"It was, 'Oh, God, there's a tree falling,' and I just broke to the right and tried to get away from as much of it as possible," said Steve Queen, whose car was hit by debris.

Part of Kepler Road was closed while troopers investigated the accident. Kepler Road has since reopened.

The names of the two people hurt were not immediately released.
