A Brevard County softball league is trying to figure out how to move forward after all vandals destroyed all of the equipment just days before the start of the season.

Palm Bay Fast Pitch Little League coaches are scrambling to make sure dozens of girls have a fair chance to play the game they love.

"It looks like they used some metal scissors of some sort to rip this apart and get in," said Paul Moss, a coach and coordinator of Palm Bay Fast Pitch Little League.

Once the vandals got inside, Moss said, they took the league's field paint and bats and then destroyed equipment.

"So, it's going to cost a ton of money to get these girls started for the season, which happens in two weeks," he said.

With missing helmets and bats, the league is looking at spending $2,000 to replace and repair items. Tryouts are just two days away, and the girls are wondering what will happen this upcoming season.

"I'm angry because I was looking forward to tryouts," said Lana Hampson, who plays in the league.

Despite the cost and the damage, league officials said games will go on. Tryouts will still take place Tuesday, Jan. 27.

"It's going to be expensive for the league," Moss said. "We are just going to have to start back up from ground zero."

Anyone with information about who might have vandalized the league’s equipment is asked to call the Palm Bay Police Department at 321-952-3456.
