Police are investigating after a security guard shot a man during a dispute about reckless driving in Orange County.

It happened around 3:10 a.m. Saturday in front of the Maxwell Terrace Apartment complex, located at 3200 W. Colonial Drive.

According to a statement from the security guard's company, Urban Enforcement and Protection Inc., the on-duty security guard noticed a black pickup truck driving erratically.

The security guard said the vehicle almost struck his car, and so he honked his horn. The driver of the pickup truck then stopped his vehicle, and a passenger got out and began threatening the security guard, a release states.

Police said a confrontation ensued between the security guard and the man, which ended with gunfire.

The security guard called police after shooting the man.

The victim was found with a gunshot wound to the torso in the back of a Checkers restaurant across the street. He was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

The security guard hasn't been arrested or charged.
