Where in the world in Maureen McCann? She hasn't been on News 13 all week, because she's attending a weather summit in Colorado, getting the latest weather information to help us back here in Central Florida.

While I'm not physically at News 13 this week, I'm still entirely focused on Central Florida weather from here at the 26th Annual Steamboat Weather Summit.

You may be wondering: Why did I have to travel all the way to Colorado for that?

Here is where meteorologists from around the country are meeting with some of the top experts in the field to discuss the latest research, issues and trends in the industry.

Some of these topics include the latest in emergency response, communicating weather threats, and some of the new features in space weather. We even heard from Astronaut Steve Swanson with an update on the International Space Station.

Tropical weather is a primary topic here, and I'll have the chance to meet with Dr. Phil Klotzbach as we look ahead to the 2015 hurricane season. Dr. Klotzbach is a part of the Tropical Meteorology Project team at Colorado State University, which issues the yearly Seasonal Hurricane Forecasts that predict the number of tropical storms that will form each year in the Atlantic Basin.

All of this information will be aimed at keeping you informed and safe as we implement the latest technology within News 13's Weather on the Ones.

I'll have more updates this week from the weather summit as I interact with some of these experts.
