Clermont’s historic water tower has been drained as crews begin repairing it.

The 500,000 gallon tank near State Road 50 and U.S. 27 has served as one of the most recognizable features of Clermont for decades.

Now there is plastic fencing around the site, and in the next few days giant tarps will be going over the tower where they will remain for several months.

It’s all part of a $500,000 plan to repair and restore both of the city’s water towers.

Crews will be sandblasting and when they are done the towers will be painted and have the city’s new logo.

It’s been 15 years since the last repair and actually something the city has wanted to do for some time but they had to have ways to re-route water so no customers will be affected during the repairs.
