A man who had barricaded himself inside a home in east Orange County surrendered peacefully Monday morning after a five-hour standoff with a SWAT team.

Orange County deputies said the suspect, who has been identified as Steven Marshall, 42, got into an argument with one of his neighbors on the 6800 block of Mediterranean Road, in the Lynnwood Estates neighborhood, around 5:30 a.m.

Investigators said they were told Marshall was armed and threatened to kill his neighbor with a handgun. He refused to come out of his home.

As deputies moved in, they kept neighbors away from the scene as standoff negotiators worked to diffuse the situation.

"I got up to take my kids to school at 6 in the morning, and the police were already out there, but they were still able to let people go in and out," said Renee Hidalgo, a Lynnwood Estates resident. "After I let the bus take them, I wasn't able to go back in. That was at 7 this morning."

Marshall surrendered to deputies just after 10:30 a.m. Investigators said they were working to determine what led to the argument. At least one home was evacuated during the incident, deputies said.
