A Flagler County man is recovering from dog bites after he and his two dogs were attacked Thursday in Palm Coast. One of the man's pets had to be euthanized because of the injuries it suffered.

The 4-year-old Mastiff mix that attacked the man has been quarantined at the Flagler Humane Society shelter.

According to the incident report, James Greenberg was walking his own dogs, a Labrador and a Pomeranian, along Burroughs Drive, when the Mastiff mix, named Mariposa, came running down the road.

Both the lab and Pomeranian were bitten, as was Greenberg as he tried to protect his pets. But the smaller Pomeranian's injuries were too grave.

Animal Control officers had previously brought in Mariposa as a stray, but the dog's owner claimed her after going through responsible pet ownership training.

If she does not claim her dog this time, Animal Control said Mariposa would have to be put down following a 10-day quarantine.
