A 41-year-old motorcyclist was killed Saturday night when he was struck by a wrong-way driver who had just struck another car in Lake County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Gladys Steinfurth, 88, of Leesburg, was traveling westbound on Hawthorne Boulevard, approaching U.S. 27, around 8:10 p.m.

Steinfurth entered the intersection and struck a vehicle (the driver suffered minor injuries). After the first crash, Steinfurth then traveled southbound, in the northbound lanes, of U.S. 27.

Shawn Honaker, 41, of Leesburg, was traveling northbound on U.S. 27 on a Honda motorcycle.

Honaker put down his motorcycle in an attempt to avoid Steinfurth's four-door Buick, but the front of the car struck the motorcycle.

Honaker was ejected off the motorcycle, the report states. He was taken to Leesburg Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

The crash remains under investigation. Charges are pending.
