In the tropics, Invest 99 has moved out of the Yucatan Peninsula and into the Bay of Campeche.

This tropical wave holds a high potential for development over the next few days.

Whether this system develops or not, most models have it tracking west toward Mexico with no threat to Florida.

Our holiday weekend has come to an end. We rounded out the weekend and started out the month of September with hot temperatures and a few afternoon storms. Highs across Central Florida climbed into the 90s with heat index numbers in the upper 90s to some feeling more like 100 degrees. Most were dry, but the east coast sea breeze did spark some storms as it moved west. A similar forecast is in store for the next couple of days.

The few clouds around from the evening storms will clear as we head into Tuesday morning. Temperatures will be warm and muggy, dropping only into the middle-to-upper 70s.

Few changes are expected with the weather through mid-week. By Thursday, however, low pressure to our east will inch closer. This system will help to push more moisture into Central Florida and rain chances will increase as we head toward the weekend. Highs will remain seasonable in the low 90s inland to upper 80s along the coast.

In the tropics, Invest 99 intensified into Tropical Depression Five as it moved into the Bay of Campeche Monday afternoon. This system will be under favorable conditions over the next couple of days and may even intensify into a tropical storm. If that happens, it will be named Dolly. Models are in good agreement with this system tracking northwest toward Mexico and making landfall on the east coast on Wednesday with no impact to Florida. Aside from a few tropical waves, the Atlantic is quiet.
