Patricia Northey will move on to the November general election for an at-large Volusia County Council seat after a recount confirmed she edged out challenger Webster Barnaby.

The Volusia County Canvassing Board finished the machine recount Saturday.

On election night, Northey received 22,812 (32.58 percent) votes, and Barnaby received 22,659 (32.37 percent) votes.

Joyce Cusack, who received the most votes, moved on to the general election with 24,539 (35.05 percent) votes.

Because the difference between Northey and Barnaby was 153 votes — or .21 percent — Volusia County Supervisor of Elections Anna McFall said a machine and manual recount would take place Friday or Saturday, in accordance with state statutes.

After recounting 75,000 ballots, it was determined that Northey received 22,822 (32.59 percent) votes, Barnaby received 22,669 (32.38 percent) votes and Cusack received 24,530 (35.03 percent) votes.

"Although the process was tedious, costly and time consuming, I am pleased to present the results that could not have been accomplished without dedicated canvassing board members and Department of Elections employees," McFall said in a statement.
