College football is back.

The University of Central Florida kicked off its season with a twist Saturday morning as they took on Penn State in Dublin, Ireland, as part of the Croke Park Classic.

Hundreds of Knights fans gathered at CFE Arena for a watch party. The game kicked off at 8:30 a.m.

UCF's Student Government Association put on the watch party — an effort to get new students active and involved in cheering in their school.

There were plenty of giveaways at the event, including foam swords and special T-shirts.

There's a lot of excitement surrounding the UCF program following last year's record-setting season, including a Fiesta Bowl win — the team's first BCS bowl game victory.

Saturday's game was the first time either team has played outside of the United States.

UCF will be on the road Sept. 13, at Missouri, before returning home to take on Bethune-Cookman on Sept. 20.

"Well, it's my school, it's the first game, and it's a pretty big thing for our team to be in Ireland," said Julie Zwissler, a UCF student. "That's kind of a cool thing, so we came out here to see that and support our school (and) watch football."

The watch party featured UCF's prep band, cheerleaders and other varsity athletic teams.
