Orange County Sheriff's deputies shot and killed a man they say was armed Friday morning while executing a high-risk search warrant on the 1100 block of 25th Street.

Sheriff Demings said following the incident that the SWAT team was serving the warrant when the suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Jeremy Lewis, exited an adjacent apartment with a revolver, and did not follow deputies' instructions to drop the weapon.

Demings said at one point Lewis raised his firearm after ignoring deputies' instructions, and two members of the SWAT team fired their weapons.

Lewis was later pronounced dead; Demings said less than a dozen rounds were fired.

Deputies say Lewis was a convicted felon, with a violent criminal history and known access to firearms. According to Demings, narcotics were being sold out of the residence.

Several people, and possibly one child, were in the residence when the shooting occurred. No other injuries have been reported.

Family members showed up to the crime scene on 25th Street looking for answers.

"Everybody heard gun shots," said Patricia Lewis, Jeremy Lewis' aunt.

Latresa Johnson says she has three sons with Jeremy.

"What am i suppose to say to little Jeremy? What am I suppose to say to him?" asked Johnson.

Family members and neighbors swarmed the street.

You could see people crying and hugging each other.

Deputies say Lewis came out of an adjacent unit in the complex with a revolver; they say he refused to put the gun down -- and was then shot several times.

Sheriff Demings says they don't believe the suspect fired any rounds.

Demings also said that there's been a drug investigation at the apartment complex for several weeks.

"I talked to [Lewis] like five days ago, and he was expecting something like this to happen," said Tony Ellington.

Now this family is devastated.

This family tells News 13 they will still be trying to get more information about what happened, and the mother of Lewis' three sons plans to get counseling for her boys.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will be investigating the shooting, and the deputies will be placed on leave during the investigation.
