Scott Batterson, former Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority board member, has been found guilty of bribery and soliciting unlawful compensation.

Batterson's defense rested Wednesday morning without presenting its case and filed a motion for acquittal after a short recess, which the judge denied. The trial went faster than many people expected. The jury deliberated for about three and a half hours.

The state alleges Batterson offered a $5 million toll agency contract to a consultant in exchange for the right to exert influence, possibly choosing subcontractors.

During closing arguments Batterson's lawyer came down hard on the state's main witness and said the state failed to prove that he was even a public servant.

Batterson was indicted in April for allegedly holding secret meetings to vote out the authority's previous director. Batterson turned himself in that same day in Seminole County.

Batterson is facing up to 30 years in prison. His sentencing date is Oct. 17 at 9:30 a.m.
