The youngest candidate for Florida House District 31 is now heading to Tallahassee.
Twenty-three-year-old Jennifer Sullivan won the District 31 seat in a very close race.
"I may be 23, I may live at home, and I may not have a mortgage but I am going to be your next representative," Sullivan told supporters at her victory party in Sorrento Tuesday. Loved ones cried and hugs were given as the results came in.
Sullivan was up against four other Republicans, all older candidates from varying backgrounds.
Randy Glisson came in a close second place.
Sullivan is a youth development leader. She said despite her age she understands the role of government.
"I hope that this would not just inspire my generation, but inspire all Americans that freedom is not dead and you can truly work hard, build relationships and anything is possible," Sullivan said.
This is an open race, meaning all registered voters were allowed to cast their votes.
District 31 represents Eustis, Tavares, Umatilla, Mount Dora and Apopka.
