One man is dead after a car crashed into a retention pond at Orlando International Airport, airport officials confirmed Monday.

The crash happened just before 9 a.m. on Casa Verde Road, on the north side of the airport property. Officials said the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into the pond.

Orlando International Airport Rescue Fire Fighters began searching the pond, calling in the Orlando Fire Department for assistance.

Dive teams pulled a male victim from the pond. The unidentified male was transported to Florida Hospital East, where he was later pronounced dead.

Orlando police have been called to investigate the crash. No other details on how it happened were immediately released.
