Three people were injured after an SUV slammed into a boat, causing it to slide off the trailer and hit another person, along A1A in Brevard County on Monday morning.

The incident happened just after 9 a.m., about 1.5 miles south of Jupiter Street.

Louis Segretto, 60, of Satellite Beach, was traveling southbound on A1A in the right lane. Segretto was in a Dodge pickup truck towing a boat.

Amy Petty, 40, of Satellite Beach, was also traveling southbound on A1A in the right lane in a Ford Explorer.

Segretto stopped in the roadway to check the trailer connection. Meanwhile, Melody Segretto, 56, of Satellite Beach, directed traffic, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Petty, who troopers said was distracted as she was driving, failed to see Melody Segretto in the road and struck her and then struck the left rear of the boat on the trailer.

Louis Segretto was then struck by the boat as it slid off the trailer, the report states.

The trailer traveled across the road, onto the shoulder and then struck the fence that surrounds Patrick Air Force Base.

Melody Segretto suffered serious injuries. Louis Segretto sustained minor injuries. A 4-year-old passenger in Amy Petty's vehicle also suffered minor injuries.

Louis Segretto was charged with improper stopping on a roadway. Amy Petty was charged with careless driving.
