Air conditioning problems at an Orange County high school are forcing the school to relocate students to protect them from the heat.

The high Thursday in Orlando was 97 degrees, with a heat index that made it feel like over 100 degrees outside.

The problem is so bad, the principal of Dr. Phillips High School, Dr. Suzanne Knight, sent a recorded phone message to students' parents Thursday:

"Dr. Phillips has been experiencing significant airconditioning issues this week. Classrooms have been relocated as air problems arise."

"We greatly appreciate everyone's patience as we work to get all classrooms on this campus fully functioning with AC."

The principal added that maintenance workers were able to fix the air conditioning in several portables on Thursday. In the meantime, students are being sent to temporary classrooms such as media center and computer lab.
