Newly-released video shows an Orlando Police Officer firing an assault rifle at a suspect in a car about 88 feet away.

Orlando Police Officer David Johnston was indicted by an Orange County grand jury back in July for his involvement in a February shooting in downtown Orlando.

Officials with the Orlando Police Department have confirmed Johnston has been placed on paid alternative duty.

In the video, Officer David Johnston is seen going back into his patrol car to grab an AR-15 rifle. According to a report that accompanied the video, he fired 23 times at a black Ponantic driven by Derrick Lattimore.

Police got a call about a domestic violence disturbance on earlier in the night.

They were told Lattimore was making death threats. Police tried to arrest him on the fifth floor of the parking garage in the City View Apartments on West Church Street.

The report indicates that Lattimore sped off when approached by officers, almost hitting one of them. They fired a few shots and Lattimore traveled down the parking garage. That’s when Officer Johnston opened fire though a metal gate.

The report indicates that Lattimore and Johnston were about 88 feet away from each other and 23 shots were fired. Johnston faces charges of shooting into an occupied vehicle and discharging a firearm in public.

Records show that Officer Johnston declined to be interviewed by the task force looking into this case.
