A woman and a 10-week-old infant were killed Thursday in a multiple-vehicle crash in Volusia County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, James Searls, 62, was traveling westbound on State Road 40 in a tractor-trailer when, for an unknown reason, Searls drifted over the center lane and into oncoming traffic.

Troopers say that's when Searls collided with a 1994 Ford Explorer traveling eastbound that was being driven by 21-year-old Angelique Potter and carrying a 10-week-old infant, killing both of the occupants.

The investigation is ongoing and will be conducted by FHP. Vehicle processing and inspection are pending the investigation.
