Another city is looking to put the brakes on medical marijuana, even before we know if voters will approve it on the November ballot.

Titusville’s City Council is considering banning medical marijuana clinics and the cultivation of marijuana in Brevard County.

Tuesday night, council members gave initial approval of prohibiting the cultivation of marijuana in city limits. They are also looking to put a moratorium on the establishment of marijuana clinics.

The moratorium would last until May 1 as the city considers what it should do.

“I think we have to give enough time to be able to see what is happening in other areas, and determine how we are going to approach it, and that’s going to take a little time before they blossom,” said Councilmember Walt Johnson.

A local resident argued the ordinances will hurt businesses and potential customers who are looking to ease pain by using medical marijuana.

The ordinances will come back for final approval at the end of the month.

Meanwhile, Grant-Valkaria’s town council will consider Wednesday night whether to allow marijuana facilities in industrial light and heavy zoning areas.
