An Apopka man is facing attempted murder charges after deputies said he poured gasoline on another man and then lit him on fire.

The incident happened around 2:16 a.m. Sunday, July 6, on the 7600 block of Clarcona Ocoee Road, in Orange County.

JoAn Mayard said her nephew, 40-year-old Shannon Brewer, is getting skin grafts after being severely burned by his friend, Vincent Moore, 47.

Deputies said Moore doused his friend in gasoline and then set him ablaze with a lighter.

More was arrested at the scene of the incident and booked into the Orange County Jail. He went before a judge Monday morning, who ordered him to be held without bond.

Relatives said Brewer lives at the house where the crime took place. Deputies said Brewer, the suspect and two other women were on the property.

According to the arrest affidavit, Brewer had second-degree burns on his head, shoulders and hands.

A deputy wrote in his report that he could see a layer of skin coming off Brewer's body and that he appeared to be in "an extreme amount of pain."

Brewer told deputies Moore got mad at him for snitching on his cousin in a criminal case.

Mayard said the two men are friends, and she sent a message of forgiveness.

"My heart goes out to the guy that threw the gas on him because they were friends," she said. "They had worked all week doing tree work and everything. Things can happen in a split-second that changes lives forever, so my heart goes out to both of them."

The report indicates that Brewer initially said he did not need any medical treatment. Deputies said they saw Moore giving Brewer "threatening looks" when being questioned by authorities.

Neighbors are shocked by the level of violence.

"The guy must have been really mad," Alyssa Davis said. "I don't understand why someone would do something that traumatic. I mean that is a lot of anger."

Family members said they don't know how long Brewer will be in the hospital and that they are praying for everyone involved.

"We can make some terrible mistakes," Mayard said.

Moore has a criminal history, according to the Department of Corrections.

He served time in prison between 2005 and 2006 for an aggravated assault that caused harm to another person.
