One person was killed and six people were injured Saturday night in a single-vehicle crash in Polk County.

Around 7:25 p.m., a black 2003 Ford Expedition was traveling westbound on I-4 and entering onto the off-ramp at U.S. 27, in Davenport.

For unknown reasons, the driver, Michele Walsh, 24, of Kissimmee, lost control of the SUV.

The SUV then slid into the outside lane of the off-ramp, narrowly missing striking a truck that was stopped on the off-ramp, and then flipped.

Lascelles Gabbidon II, 36, of Kissimmee, was ejected from the vehicle.

Gabbidon, was taken to Heart of Florida Hospital, where he later died. Walsh declined medical treatment.

There were five other occupants of the SUV. Their names, ages and injuries are as follows:

  • Angela Marie Edwards, 24, of Jamaica, was taken to Leesburg Regional Medical Center, treated and released
  • Eric Evering, 6, of Jamaica was taken to Tampa General Hospital, admitted and in stable condition
  • Dhimani Edwards, 12, of Jamaica, was taken to Heart of Florida Hospital, treated and released
  • Sanjay Edwards, 11, of Jamaica, was taken to Heart of Florida Hospital, treated and released
  • Krishna Edwards, 14, of Jamaica, was taken to Heart of Florida Hospital, treated and released.

The driver was wearing her seatbelt, but deputies said it didn't appear any of the other occupants of the vehicle were wearing seatbelts.

Wet road conditions and speed may be a factor, as well as bald tires on the SUV, deputies said. The investigation is ongoing.
