The 64-year-old man who almost died after he was stabbed at a LYNX bus stop is telling his story to News 13.

Don Sacco was stabbed eight times July 16, and investigators say Thomas Thorpe stabbed him.

Now Thorpe is behind bars, charged with attempted murder.

Sacco is now out of the hospital and talked to News 13 about the attack.

The stabbing happened as Sacco was waiting here at the bus stop on the corner of Orange Avenue and Sixth Avenue; a busy bus stop he is always at

Sacco says he believes that if it wasn’t for a good Samaritan with a gun, he might be dead.

Don Sacco takes the bus to bingo at the senior center every Wednesday morning.

July 16, was no different.

"I seen him standing there but I didn’t know who he was or think anything of it, everyone stands at the bus stop," said Sacco.

Sacco is talking about the man who deputies say attacked him, Thomas Thorpe.

“He only hit my stomach and my liver; if he had hit my heart, I don’t know what would’ve happened.”

While Sacco was being stabbed a man spotted it happening and pulled over.

The man was armed, and he exited his vehicle and pointed his gun at the suspect. Deputies say the good Samaritan held Thorpe at gunpoint until law enforcement arrived.

"They say they aren’t heroes, but they are heroes in my book. I probably wouldn’t have made it if it wasn’t for them,” said Sacco.

Sacco says that man, who we will only identify as a good Samaritan, even came to see him at the hospital.

Sacco was released from the hospital Monday night and is still recovering from his injuries, but his spirits are as high as ever.

He says this incident has given him a new lease on life, and that he still plans on riding the bus.

“I want to try and get back to how I was before, and try and be the best person I can.”

His attacker, Thomas Thorpe, is still behind bars after being charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated battery and robbery.
