Investigators spent the afternoon executing a search warrant of the home of a man who started a shootout with police.

Meanwhile - neighbors spent the day in shock. It's not very often residents see swat teams  on the 5300 block of Hawford Circle.

News 13's was near the Windsor Place Subdivision and spoke with several residents affected by the violence.

For more than two hours Wednesday morning, Carolyn Brooks and her neighbors were told to stay inside their homes.

"I had neighbors that couldn't go to work," said Carolyn Brooks, who was forced to stay in her home.

Deputies evacuated a total of five homes and put part of the community on lockdown as they surrounded the home of 29-year-old Harrison Carter.

"It was just unreal," added Brooks.

The police presence was intense, and only increased as the SWAT team moved into the Belle Isle neighborhood.

"Lights everywhere, undercover cops, you kind of had to keep looking in your rearview mirror to make sure there wasn't one behind you because there were so many." said Robin Durden, who witnessed part of the incident.

Law enforcement from Apopka, Orlando, and other surrounding cities rushed to this area after the call came out reporting that shots were fired at deputies and that they needed help.

"Like 40 cop cars blocking Conway Road," said Durden.

The Orange County Sheriff said investigators have been monitoring this house for some time.

People who live on the block say they had no idea.

"Nothing like this has ever happened in this neighborhood. It was just very frightening," said Brooks.

A scary situation, but people we spoke with are grateful no one else was hurt.

Sheriff Jerry Demings said narcotics agents were working an undercover assignment at the home regarding a parcel that was being delivered. The package was presumed to contain illegal narcotics.

Demings said Harrison Carter recognized the deputies as law enforcement officials by their clothing and blue lights on vehicles.

"During this shooting, what essentially happened the deputies had some brief conversation with him they were identified he had a hand gun and at that point, the gun was pointed directly at them," Demings said. "From what I am told at this time, they fired at him. He retreated into the home and came back and fired another volley of rounds at the deputies.”

Demings said this home has been under surveillance for a while.

Carter was arrested July 18 on drug charges in Osceola County.

Several agencies responded the scene including Orlando police, Kissimmee police, Florida Highway Patrol and Orange County Fire Rescue.

Demings said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate this deputy-involved shooting.
