Terry Freeman, a former Deltona firefighter accused of raping several women, was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison Thursday.

Freeman appeared before Judge Margaret Hudson at the Volusia County Courthouse as part of a plea deal in three cases. As part of the deal, Freeman pleaded guilty of second-degree sexual battery and two counts of third-degree felony battery.

In addition to the prison time, Freeman was also sentenced to 10 years of probation.

Freeman faced a maximum of 25 years in prison if found guilty.

Freeman's attorney, Mark O'Mara, said an agreement was reached because both sides were able to talk with each other.

"Any case like this is a negotiation to try and get a resolution, and that's what this was," said O'Mara, who also represented George Zimmerman in his murder trial last year. "There were strengths to the case; there were weaknesses to the cases, individually and together."

Freeman was ordered to avoid contact with the 10 victims and must register as a sex offender.

Freeman originally pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

In all, about a dozen women have come forward with accusations Freeman raped them, but has only been charged in six cases.
