One person is dead and five people are injured after a truck crashed into a home in Pine Hills.

The driver of the car suffered a gunshot wound before crashing into the home at 5939 Westbury Drive, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Among the injured were a 4-year-old and a 16-year-old, deputies said.

The Sheriff's Office believes the driver of the car and one of the passengers were shot as they passed Denson Drive.

Investigators believe once the driver was shot, he either accelerated to get away and died after the crash, or died immediately, and his foot held down the gas pedal.

The bigger question, though, is: who fired that deadly shot?

“It’s concerning to me whenever there’s a death involved," said Sheriff Jerry Demings. "And, obviously, this is a homicide today. So, for this neighborhood, this is a big deal out here.”

The truck was going so fast it burst through a wooden fence and barreled into the home, with four people inside. A mother and the two juveniles were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

“It’s very fortunate that somebody else didn’t die because of the gun battle that occurred out here on the streets today,” Demings said.

The sheriff said he expects the shooter or shooters will be identified and caught soon.

“Decent people live out here," Demings said. "And, I’m out here because we want to make sure these streets are safe for everybody.”

Two other people in the car were also rushed to ORMC. One was shot multiple times, while the other sustained injuries in the crash.
